State officials in Augusta, Maine recently announced the winner of a $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot – the fourth largest in U.S. history – has come forward to collect the prize. The winner had been a mystery, and remains a mystery.
The Maine State Lottery said the winner chose to remain anonymous and collect the cash option through a Limited Liability Company (LLC).
Some states allow the winner to remain anonymous. Maine is not one of those states. Maine requires the name of the winner to be public information – but in this case – the state accepted an LLC as the winner thus allowing the person to protect their privacy.
When privacy is a concern… LLCs to the rescue. Who wants to be bombarded by panhandlers and groups begging for money?
Delaware LLCs are the ultimate when privacy is a concern. Owner information is never reported to the State or made available to the public.
Gamble responsibly and protect yourself should good things happen. Your first thought should be a Delaware LLC.
